Privacy policy

What Cosmetic Checker does with your data, in plain words.

Effective 22 October 2026

This policy covers the Cosmetic Checker mobile app for iOS and Android and this website, cosmeticchecker.app. The app is free and paid for by ads. By using it, you agree to this policy.

Summary

  • There’s no account, and we don’t ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • Your check history is stored on your phone.
  • The brand and batch code you enter are sent to our server so it can work out the date.
  • Ads, usage statistics and crash reports come from Google services, with your consent where the law requires it.
  • This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers.

Information the app uses

On your phone

Your check history (brand, batch code, result and date) and your settings, such as the theme you picked, are stored on your phone. We can’t see them, and they aren’t uploaded anywhere, because there are no accounts. If you delete the app, they go with it.

When you check a batch code

To work out a result, the app sends the brand you chose and the batch code you typed to our API server over HTTPS. Like any web server, it logs technical details of each request, such as the time, your IP address and the request itself. We use these logs to run and secure the service and to fix lookups that go wrong. We don’t link them to who you are.

Third-party services

The app uses the following services. They may collect information such as device identifiers, advertising identifiers, app interactions, crash data and approximate location derived from your IP address. Each is governed by its own privacy policy.

Your choices and consent

  • Consent. Where required, for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the app asks for your consent to personalized advertising through a Google consent message. You can change your choice later in the app’s settings.
  • iOS tracking. On iPhone and iPad the app may ask permission to track you across other companies’ apps. You can say no, and you can change your mind any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
  • Advertising ID. You can reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device’s privacy settings.
  • Delete your data. Clear your history in the app, or uninstall it, to remove everything stored on your phone.

Cookies

The website doesn’t set cookies and has no analytics. If you switch between light and dark with the toggle, it remembers your choice in your browser’s local storage, and that’s all. Fonts come from this site, not from a third party. Third-party code inside the app, such as the advertising SDK, may use similar technologies on your phone.

Sharing

We don’t sell your personal information. Data goes only to the service providers listed above, for ads, analytics and crash reports, or where the law requires it.

Retention and security

We keep request logs only as long as we need them to run and secure the service, and all transfers use HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t promise absolute security.

Children

The app isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. Ads are limited to a content rating suitable for teens, and are restricted for users under the age of consent. If you think a child has given us information, get in touch and we’ll help.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to how it’s used, and to complain to your data protection authority. We hold no account data, so most of your data is on your phone and under your control. For data held by Google, use the controls in your Google account.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any change will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
